The application for the IEC Young Professionals 2026 workshop is now open

IEC Young Professionals Workshop, 15–20 November 2026, Hamburg, Germany

Are you at the beginning of your career and interested in developing your expertise? Would you like to gain access to the global expert network of the electrical sector, attend the opening of the IEC General Meeting, meet its leadership, visit meetings of the standardization and conformity assessment management groups, and follow technical committee meetings? Are you interested in learning how international electrical standards are created?

Once again, two young Finnish professionals in the electrical sector have the opportunity to be selected for this unique vantage point at the IEC General Meeting. The application deadline is 18 June 2026.

The electrical sector is highly networked – and the IEC General Meeting is its main global event

The IEC Young Professionals programme brings together early-career professionals in the electrical sector from around the world to network and learn about standardization. SESKO can nominate two participants for the IEC Young Professionals workshop, held in connection with the 90th IEC General Meeting in Hamburg, Germany, on 15–20 November 2026.

This opportunity is for you if you are a 20–35-year-old electrical sector professional, have good English skills, and are interested in international work.

The workshop is free of charge, and reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed to participants.

Would you like to participate yourself, or perhaps encourage a young member of your team to participate and gain fresh ideas?

What are the benefits of participating?

The Young Professionals programme is an excellent opportunity to offer young employees a fast track for professional development. Business requires expertise, insight, foresight, and networks—and the workshop helps develop all of these.

Young experts will have the chance to network internationally with top professionals and peers of the same age from companies, research institutions, and universities working in electrical, electronics, and ICT technologies. Participants will also have the opportunity to share their views on the future of standardization with IEC leadership.

Your ideas—or those of your young colleague—may influence the future of standardization. Most importantly, knowledge of standardization is valuable capital when seeking new career opportunities.

Group work and discussions on the most pressing issues in the electrical sector

Did you know that it is possible to gain insights into the future? The workshop helps participants better understand the impact of standardization and conformity assessment on technological development, environmental issues, and sustainable development goals, as well as why participating in standardization is a significant strategic opportunity to influence developments at a global level.

After the workshop, participants will be invited to online meetings related to IEC and the Young Professionals programme and encouraged to participate in standardization work both internationally and nationally.

Who should apply?

Young engineers employed in industry, universities, research institutes, certification bodies, electrical sector organizations, regulatory authorities, or similar organizations.

In addition, applicants should:

  • have graduated primarily from electrical engineering, automation engineering, or energy technology programmes
  • have an interest in standards, standardization work, or conformity assessment
  • be motivated to engage in international collaboration
  • have good English language skills
  • be approximately 20–35 years old

If you are unsure whether you are eligible to apply, please contact us (asiakaspalvelu@sesko.fi). Basic knowledge of standards is beneficial but not required—interest in the topic is enough.
