Next week, Nordic Young Professionals 2025, held in Helsinki, will bring together young professionals from across the Nordic countries to explore the world of standards and conformity assessment. This two-day event offers a unique opportunity to learn, network, and dive into international cooperation in the electrical and electronics sector.
This year, Nordic YP is organized in parallel with IECEE’s meeting week. At the same time, IECEE’s Working Groups (WG) and the Certification Management Committee (CMC) will convene in Helsinki. This gives young participants an excellent opportunity to observe international conformity assessment processes up close. Several international influencers will also be present — including IEC President Jo Cops, who will offer a global perspective on the importance of standardization.
On Wednesday, June 25, the program kicks off with a networking dinner at the restaurant of Scandic Simonkenttä in central Helsinki. The dinner offers participants a relaxed setting to get to know each other, share their backgrounds, and prepare for the next day’s intensive workshop.
At the Core of Standards, Technology, and Compliance
The workshop day on Thursday, June 26, takes place at Paasitorni and begins with high-level expert presentations. First to speak is Steven Margis, Chair of IECEE, who will present the operations of the IECEE system and discuss the role of conformity assessment in ensuring safety and facilitating international trade. He will be followed by Mika Richardt, Global Head of Product Certification at SGS C&P, who will present the long-standing tradition of Nordic cooperation in conformity oversight and explain how standards support the practical work of conformity assessment.
During the day, participants will work in international groups discussing topics such as the growth potential of health technologies and wearable electronics in the Nordic region. The groups will consider what new safety requirements these technologies may introduce and how standards can support their development and approval.
In the afternoon, participants will have the opportunity to observe part of the IECEE CMC meeting, offering a rare insight into international decision-making in the field of conformity assessment. The workshop concludes with group presentations, a joint coffee break with CMC participants, a closing discussion, and a group photo.
A New Generation Engaging with Standardization
The event is part of SESKO’s Young Professionals program, which aims to inspire new generations to contribute to the content and direction of standards. The workshop serves as a springboard into international networks and influence in developing technological safety and sustainability.
