Jarmo Virtaselle ainoana Suomesta IEC 1906 AWARD

International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) awards technical experts in the field of electrotechnical standardization with IEC 1906 Award*  to recognize and honor their invaluable and exceptional contribution on recent standardization.  

Mr. Jarmo Virtanen (retired from EFLA Oy) received the IEC 1906 Award of 2018 as the only awardee from Finland this year. The award with the diploma were presented to Mr. Virtanen at a gathering of junior and senior experts in electrotechnical standardization on September 6th 2018 at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet. 

Over a decade Jarmo has brought his knowledge especially into the project teams PT 61820 (Electrical installations for aeronautical ground lighting at aerodromes), PT 63067 (Connecting devices) and to the preparation of the AGL transformer standard IEC 61823. Mr. Virtanen’s expertize in these project groups has made an impact on the improvement of electrical safety of the ground personnel and advanced the safety of travelers despite the continuous increase in the activity and growth of the air traffic.

From 1996 to 2009 Mr. Jarmo Virtanen participated to IEC working group of TC 23 (Electrical accessories) which established safety requirements for installation couplers. He was able to utilize the experience gained from those activities also in project groups of technical committee TC 97. Due to his experience in standardization processes, awesome expertise and humane attitude, he has been one of the mainstays in IEC TC 97 activities, and therefore an entitled expert to be presented with IEC 1906 Award.

* Created in 2004 by the IEC Executive Committee (ExCo), the 1906 Award was established in commemoration of the IEC’s year of foundation, and honours IEC technical experts around the world, whose work is fundamental to IEC. 
The award also recognizes exceptional and recent achievement, a project or other specific contribution related to the activities of IEC and which contributes in a significant way to advancing the work of the Commission.
